If you haven’t had a chance to check this out yet, you should. Frienedy (www.frienedy.com) is a new social media platform with the premise of group networking, enhanced privacy, and compliance with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
We talk about being the first generation of parents who are faced with parenting a completely electronic generation- this is a great platform to allow parents to introduce their kids to social media on their terms and on their timeline and to teach them how to be good digital citizens. Better yet, it’s not a site designed to target kids- it’s for users of all ages, but with the ability for parents to add their children through a COPPA compliant fast and simple process.
The overall idea is to share in groups. Privately. Selectively sharing different photos, documents, events, wish list items, or convos with the different groups in your life. Keep what needs to be private, private. I’m pretty sure my Facebook friends don’t want to see 40 photos from my grandfather’s youth as we prepare for his 90th birthday party- but my family does! Get the idea?
Think schools, classrooms, professional learning groups, clubs, sports teams, gyms, dance studios, family, friends- all of the groups in your life and the lives of your kids.
Oh, and it’s free and completely mobile frienedy…I mean, friendly. And, you can log in with Facebook. And, you’ll never have to ask your kids what they want for birthdays and holidays again. And, the iOS app will be in the app store by mid-August at the very latest. Enjoy!
